Flood causes major damage to Tasmanian Canoe Club course

The Tasmanian Canoe Club site on the Forth River has been decimated by last weeks flood.

The canoe course is recognized as the best whitewater course in Australia for teaching and junior level kayaking competitions. First established in 1972, the course has been the venue of the Tasmanian and Australian Schools Kayaking Championships on a regular basis.

The course was to be the venue for the Tasmanian Schools Championships again in September and a statewide education and training weekend in October.

Destroyed in the flood were the slalom courseÕs infrastructure, the compiling shed, walkways and viewing platform and the picnic facilities. In addition to this, many large trees were up rooted, leaving a scene of devastation. Club members now face the daunting task of cleaning up the site and rebuilding the facilities.
