Introduction to Kayaking

 

The Tasmanian Canoe Club is offering introductory kayak sessions to people interested in white water, flat water or sea kayaking.

 

The sessions will cover:

  • Entering and exiting a kayak
  • Strokes – forward, backwards, turning, bracing, sculling
  • Capsize drills
  • Kayak selection
  • Safety equipment and correct clothing
  • Use of a throw bag

 

The program consists of two 1.5 hour pool sessions followed by a day out kayaking.

 

The cost for the program is $100.00 which covers:

  • Insurance Ð covered under the Australian Canoeing Inc insurance scheme
  • Membership of Australian Canoeing and the Tasmanian Canoe Club until the end of September
  • Boat hire
  • Accessory Hire Ð (PFDÕs paddle etc)
  • Instruction (Australian Canoeing qualified instructor).
  • Venue Hire

 

Where:

  • The pool sessions will be at the East Ulverstone pool
  • The day out kayaking will be on the Forth River

 

When:

  • 1st pool session Sunday 12th August 2007, 7.00pm Ð 8.30pm
  • 2nd pool session Sunday 19th August 2007, 7.00pm Ð 8.30pm
  • The day out kayaking is to be decided
